★ Character Information ★
Character Name: Asahi Yuki
Character Age: 17 (both actual and apparent)
Character Species: Human
Current Health: Alive, uninjured
Outfit: Her school uniform! An image for reference.

Character Canon: Iris Zero
Link to History: Here! It has a brief note about the world itself - other than what's mentioned there, the world just consists of regular modern-day Japan. Asahi's specific information can be found under her header.
Canon Point: Chapter 43
Canon Iteration: Original canon
Canon Iteration Explanation: n/a
★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills: Relatively strong for a girl her age and size. Perceptive.
Canon Abilities: Asahi has a power called an "Iris," which all young people in her world have - giving them the power to see something unique to them that no one else can see. In Asahi's case it means that she sees devil tails growing out of people whenever they tell a lie. It's not something she has to activate, nor can she turn it off. It's just something that always happens.
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: Wings! Not angel-like ones though, I'm thinking more something along the lines of brown falcon wings. Her eyes are usually a more muted dark amber colour, but will change to a brighter yellow when she experiences strong emotions. Very extreme emotions could even make them glow. Her abilities will mostly manifest as enhanced strength and pain tolerance.
Role Reasoning: Asahi has an incredibly strong moral compass. Back in her canon she is always shown to want to fight against any kind of injustice, and she does strive to be a good person. Asahi fits the legend archetype of the physical defender to a T, the kind of person who wants to protect the innocent of the world against all the evil things out there. I plan to play around with the fact that she really would want to icly be a legend too, which will make her desperate to maintain her legend status and not fall to myth level, despite the fact that she definitely has the problem of logic losing it from emotions when it comes to her actions. She might even worry a little about whether she is really a legend, since she often perceives others to be kinder than her - realising that she can be a little brash and blunt, and rough around the edges in that sort of way. She wants to be a good person desperately, but sometimes doesn't realise just how good she already is trying to be.
★ Personality ★
Going with option 2!

What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?

Asahi's most traumatic experience was the moment her Iris was publically revealed when she was young. In her world all young people have an Iris, so all kids in classes are aware of the fact that all their classmates can see something about them that usually isn't visible, but they never know exactly what any person's Iris is. Asahi was determined to keep her own Iris - the ability to see when people are lying - a secret, considering she was convinced people might either start acting differently around her because of it or start to avoid her altogether, but one of her classmates told the other kids that Asahi was able to see lies. This was a devastating event to Asahi, since it meant that from that point on everyone knew that she was able to tell whenever someone was lying. People did start avoiding her over it, and she even started getting bullied at some point because of it. Asahi used to be an outgoing girl, but the event made her grow so much more bitter and wary of other people, the social isolation causing her to think worse and worse of other people.

It was only when someone finally approached her to try and be friends with her that Asahi's trauma started to soften a little bit, realising that there were still people out there who'd accept her for who she is and what her power is. She's started to become a little more outgoing again ever since.

It does mean though the Asahi will do her darnest to hide her ability in-game, considering she definitely doesn't want a repeat of that traumatic event.

What experience challenged your character's core beliefs? How did they handle this or change from it?

After Asahi grew embittered because of the event from the last question, she truly started to lose faith in humanity as a whole. After all, her power allowed her to see all lies - and since people constantly lie, even if it's just about tiny things, Asahi constantly saw lies all over the place. It made her think that people constantly deceive each other, and that apparently everyone but her - from her point of view, that is - is totally okay with the world being that way.

She started believing this ever since Asahi's Iris was outted involuntarily when she was little, all the way up to a certain event only a few months before the canon point she was taken from. Asahi got into trouble when she hit a teacher after she noticed said teacher was lying, but a friend pointed out to her that said teacher had lied not to deceive Asahi, but because she wanted to protect the girl and not hurt her.

It was that moment that made Asahi realise that yes, people do lie all the time, but it's not always for a bad reason, shaking up her entire worldview. It didn't instantly 'fix' Asahi's views on lying, considering for just how long she's had them, but it does make her stop and reconsider for a moment why the person she can see lying would be lying, rather than instantly getting mad at them for it or judging them over it.

What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not?

Due to Asahi seeing people's lies as she grew up, the girl also grew up with a strict moral code. It wasn't anything that was passed down to her, but it was something she decided for herself. After seeing how filled with lies the world was, and how - in her opinion - that made the world absolutely awful, Asahi wanted no part of it. She didn't want to be a part of the lying masses, which is why Asahi tries to operate by a strict policy of never lying to other people. (She has started to break it a little bit more recently when it's to help a friend with a dire problem - but even then you can see her obviously struggling with it.)

But Asahi's moral code doesn't extend to just being honest. With how awful the world seems to her, she's determined to make it a little bit better. Asahi is always the first person to stand up for those who can't stand up for themselves. The girl views herself as a physical kind of protector, and is constantly seen wanting to fight those who threaten others, even if they are bigger than her. It makes her moral code very strong, but also pretty black and white, where she has a much harder time trying to deal with nuance.

If one were to sum up Asahi's moral code, it'd honestly just be: do good, fight evil.

What is a headcanon (or two) you feel strongly about and that you prefer playing your character with? How is this supported in canon and why do you think it benefits the character's story?

Though it's not a headcanon I explicitly write about in anything Asahi says, considering it could still be confirmed or deconfirmed by the series itself, I often operate under the assumption that Asahi does not have a good relationship with her parents. Even though we see the parents and families of other characters or hear them talk about their families, Asahi never does so. We don't get to see her house. She never mentions her mother or her father, despite being a pretty talkative person.

The reason for Asahi's bad relationship with her parents would be obvious too: it'd be because of her Iris. Imagine growing up and being able to see every single time your parents lied to you. Even when you are super young. And with Asahi initially struggling to consider any lie good, she'd just see it as her parents constantly trying to deceive her, and getting bitter over it.

It benefits her story because it gives even more reasons as to why she acts the way she does. She's shown to be protective over people younger or smaller than her, because maybe she feels like her parents never did the same for her, and she's overcompensating. Asahi also shows a desire to always be the strong and independent one, rather than leaning on others. Not to mention her myriad of trust issues - those would also make more sense if she couldn't even trust her own parents.

What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?

Asahi may have gotten a tiny bit better about the entire lying deal at this point, but there's no denying that Asahi feels most at ease around honest people. It's very noticable in her early friend choices back home too. Her best friend, Koyuki, is a pure cinnamon roll who is way too honest for her own good. Hijiri might be a weirdo who teases her, but he never bothers to lie. (Hijiri himself even points out that it's why Asahi is friendly with him.) Asahi's relationship with Toru is complicated to no ends, but he's very blunt and straightforward, which makes it easy for her to tolerate him.

The girl just has a lot of issues to work through, and while she hasn't quite worked through them, she will always be paranoid about the lies she can see. Trying to figure out why they're being told, and worrying about being deceived. It's therefore so much more easy for her to just hang around people who are honest, either because they're too sweet to lie or too blunt to bother with lying.

As much as Asahi likes to act like she's independent and strong, her safe space would never be somewhere all alone. It'd be with the select group of people she has opted to trust.
